Hudu Integration

How to connect Hudu to Strategy Overview and sync your Hudu Companies and Asset Layouts into the Technology Module.

Updated today

Hudu is a Data Integration that syncs Companies and Asset Layouts into Strategy Overview. Use it alongside a PSA integration or on its own as your source for technology data.

Hudu data flows into Strategy Overview's Technology Module as Flexible Items. Each Asset Layout in Hudu becomes its own Flexible Item Group.

What Hudu syncs

  • Companies: Maps your Hudu companies to existing companies in Strategy Overview. Hudu works as a Data Integration, not a PSA, so it maps to companies already in your account rather than creating new ones.

  • Asset Layouts: Custom asset types you've defined in Hudu. You choose which layouts and fields to import. Each layout becomes a Flexible Item Group in Strategy Overview.

Choosing your source of truth

If you have both a PSA and Hudu connected, you may have overlapping data. Strategy Overview doesn't merge duplicates, so pick one source per data type and only import each type from one place.

Most MSPs bring physical assets (workstations, servers, network devices) from their PSA and use Hudu for documentation types like Asset Layouts. If your Hudu data is better maintained than your PSA data, use Hudu for those types instead.

If you're only using Hudu (without a PSA), bring in your Asset Layouts through Hudu.

If you use PSA data in your Asset Layouts

If your Hudu Asset Layouts contain data synced from a third-party PSA (ConnectWise, Autotask, NinjaOne, etc.), that data is stored in Hudu's integration cards and is not included in standard Asset Layout fields by default. To make that data available to Strategy Overview, set up Connected Fields in Hudu.

Connected Fields let you map specific data points from your PSA integration into fields on your Asset Layouts. Once connected, those fields sync automatically and become accessible through the Hudu API, which is how Strategy Overview pulls your data.

This is a one-time setup per Asset Layout in your Hudu admin portal. Configuring Connected Fields before connecting the integration will make your setup smoother.

Create an API key in Hudu

  1. In Hudu, go to Admin > API Keys > New API Key

  2. Name: Strategy Overview

  3. Limit scope to: Full access

  4. Leave the other fields at their defaults

  5. Click Create and copy the generated key

If your Hudu environment requires IP whitelisting, add the Strategy Overview IPs before connecting. See the IP Allow List article.

Add the integration in Strategy Overview

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations > Add Integration > Hudu

  2. URL: Enter your Hudu instance URL (e.g., https://yourcompany.huducloud.com for Hudu Cloud, or your self-hosted URL). Use the base domain only.

  3. API Key: Paste the key you copied from Hudu

  4. Click Add Integration

Map companies

Import your Hudu companies and map them to the corresponding companies in Strategy Overview. If a company already exists with the same name, it auto-maps. Otherwise map them manually or use Create Unmapped for the rest.

Once you've mapped companies from your PSA, new PSA company imports will automatically map to Hudu as well.

Import Asset Layouts

On the Assets tab:

  1. Check Enable Assets sync

  2. Under Select Assets, check the Import box for each Asset Layout you want to sync

  3. For each selected layout, click Select under Fields To Sync and choose the fields to bring in. Only import fields that are useful for decision-making.

  4. Save your selections

Start simple. You don't need to import every Asset Layout on day one. Common early imports include backup solutions, ISP information, and software licenses. You can add more layouts later.

Next steps after importing

  • Configure the Technology Module: review your Flexible Item Groups, set up columns, grades, and colors. See Configuring Your Technology Module.

  • Add technology data to your Reports: add a Flexible Items Report Part to your strategy template so Hudu data appears in your client Reports.

  • Relate Flexible Items to Assessment Items: linking a Flexible Item Group to an Assessment Item shows Hudu data alongside the assessment question, giving your vCIO real context for grading. See Customizing Your Assessment.

  • Enable warranty lookup: the Warranty Service works with Hudu data. See Warranty Service Integration.
